Yakub Kolas

Yakub Kolas is a Belarusian poet, novelist, playwright, critic, essayist, translator, public figure, one of the founders of modern Belarusian literature and Belarusian language; a member of the Writers' Union of the Byelorussian SSR (1934); People's Poet of the Byelorussian SSR (1926); an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1928); Honored Science Worker of the Byelorussian SSR (1944).
Born in the village of Akinchitsy, Minsk County, Minsk Governorate of the Russian Empire (now the city of Stolbtsy, Stolbtsy District, Minsk Region, Republic of Belarus).
