Yanka Kupala is a Belarusian poet, playwright, essayist, translator, public figure, one of the founders of the modern Belarusian literature and literary language; People's Poet of the Byelorussian SSR (1925); an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1928); an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1929).

Born in Vyazynka Manor, Vileika County, Vilnius Governorate of the Russian Empire (now the village of Vyazynka, Molodechno District, Minsk Region, Republic of Belarus).
