Edrikhin, Alexey (aka Vandam)

6 Алексей Ефимович Едрихин.JPGAlexey Edrikhin (aka Vandam) (1867–1933) was a major general (1917), military intelligence officer, writer, author of works in the field of geopolitics, geostrategy and strategic geography. Born in Minsk province, he graduated from Vilna infantry cadet school (1888). Born in Minsk province, he graduated from Vilna infantry cadet school (1888).

A business trip to South Africa was his first reconnaissance mission. His further service was associated with military diplomacy and intelligence. He served as an assistant military agent (attaché) in China, the General Staff and Kiev military district. During the First World War, he was the headquarters officer for assignments at the corps headquarters, chief of staff of the 23rd infantry division, commander of the 92nd infantry regiment in Pechora, and commander of the 23rd infantry division. After the army’s collapse he moved to Estonia, where he joined the White movement and headed the headquarters of the North-Western army.

6 а Новое_время.jpg As a military officer, he served as a war writer and journalist. He wrote for the magazine Novoye vremya (New Time) under the pen name Vandam. In his book “Geopolitics and Geostrategy" Edrikhin showed himself as a follower of Russian expansion to the south and east. Researchers believe that Vandam is one of the founders of the Russian geopolitical school.

He also translated the works of Western conservative authors: Edmond Demolin’s "Aristocratic Race" (1907), Remington’s "Future War at Sea and on Land" (1913) and others.

The collection includes two works by the Russian scientist, officer, military intelligence officer, Alexei Vandam (Edrikhin), in which he analyzes Russian history from a geopolitical point of view, and also his notes on the Anglo-Boer War.
