The Library opened on September 13th an exhibition project “The National library of Belarus: yesterday, today, tomorrow” dedicated to its 100th anniversary.

Carrying on the “light of knowledge” to the readers, remains and will be the main narrative among versatile missions, targets and tasks of the library. It is presented in a figurative meaning in the exposition by blinking and twinkling with old photographs and great variety of modern works.

The exposition features art photographs gathered for the centenary anniversary directly. An individual style and photo artists’ writing allow seeing the past, present and future of the library through the author’s artistic imagination.

Archive photographs remind the past century of the library’s activity in a figurative meaning as if turning the pages of its history. In accordance with a design solution, the photographs of an actual library reflects the variety of its role, value and the light of knowledge, infinity of educational world.


Aksana Knizhnikava, director general of the National library of Belarus, delivered a welcoming speech, congratulated colleagues on the centenary jubilee and wished strong health, success in all deeds and energy to implement any intensions.

Elena Stukanova, deputy director general of the National archive of the Republic of Belarus, congratulated the attendees with the anniversary and thanked for many years cooperation and immense contribution to the development of the Belarussian culture.


Sergei Sergachev, professor, PhD in architecture, teacher of the Architecture of residential and public buildings department of the Architecture faculty of the Belarussian national technical university, thanked the library’s employees for dedicated labour and passion for their activity, and told how the “Diamond” has been created, the building of which entered encyclopedias and world reference books by its architecture, design solutions and art peculiarities.

Aleksandr Chentsov, chair of the people’s photo club “Minsk”, photo artist, congratulated the attendees on the professional anniversary and shared his opinion about the works presented by the artists and their origin.

Larisa Finkelstain, member of the Belarussian artists’ union, Belarussian designers’ union, art-critic, reminded about the history of the library, mentioned about many years’ experience by saying sincere words, wished to stay strong in the pursuit of the goals and keep up with high level proudly, which is related to the actual National library of Belarus.


The exhibition project is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the institution and describes it as the largest information and socio cultural center of the country, being a unique holding of the national documents, being an institution which remains in tune with times, and also tells about employees, who are dedicated to their profession and differ by their love to their activity.

Most of photographs are exhibited for the first time.

The exhibition project will run until October 1st, 2022.

The end date of the exhibition can be changed.

The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
