From 14 February to 10 March, an exhibition "And a soul enjoys freedom..." dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the theater artist, painter, art critic and teacher P. Maslenikov runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).


The work of the People's Artist of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of Belarus Pavel Maslenikov (1914–1995) was aimed at creating theatrical culture of the national system of education and science in the field of art, the development of the Belarusian art. His name is among the acknowledged masters of Belarusian landscape painting, theatrical and decoration art of the 20th century.

P. Maslenikov belongs to the first generation of the Belarusian painters-decorators of the Soviet period. He decorated a series of operas, ballets and drama performances in theaters of the country. Editions presented at the exhibition tell about performances in which productions the master was involved, introduce a series of drafts of decorations.

Special exhibits are reproductions by P. Maslenikova that recreate close to his heart nature of his Motherland. Master doesn’t offer unusual views for spectators, but he shows scenic, soft lines, slow pace of colorful transitions.

The painter was engaged inartistic studies in the field of stagecraft, painting, theory of genres in fine art, work of various artists. He is the author of Belaruskі savetskі tematychny zhyvapіs (Belarusian Soviet Thematic Painting) (1962), one of the authors of the edition Gіstoryya Belaruskaga mastatstva (The History of the Belarusian Art) (Vol. 4–6, 1990–1994), the author of a section on the Belarus art in an encyclopedia Istoriya iskusstva narodov SSSR (The History of Art of the USSR Peoples) (Vol. 8, 1977). These works are among the exhibits.

The exposition also contains reference materials and books about the artist, publications from periodicals.

The Mogilev Regional Art Museum was named in honour of Pavel Maslenikov. The fate of most of his works the artist decided during his lifetime – he donated about 140 paintings to this museum.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.
