From April 2 to May 6, a thematic book exhibition "Lifestyle – Health" dedicated to the World Health Day was opened in the department of official documents of the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, room 207).

This day was established at the first session of the World Health Assembly in 1948 and has been celebrated annually on April 7 since 1950. The date was not chosen by chance – on April 7, 1948, the Charter of the World Health Organization (WHO) came into force.

World Health Day is a global campaign that aims to draw the attention of every inhabitant of our planet to health and healthcare issues. It provides a unique opportunity to focus the world's attention on public health and human health issues and to encourage Governments, international organizations, business and civil society to work together to address these issues.

Every year, a theme is chosen for World Day that addresses the most pressing issues facing the health of the planet. The theme of the Day 2024 is "My health, my right".

The exhibition offered to readers includes about 100 documents in Russian and English. These are books, brochures, mimeographed UN materials, periodicals, booklets. These documents will introduce the reader to the history and development of healthcare in the world, as well as to the activities of the World Health Organization aimed at solving today's and tomorrow's health problems of the world's population.

The main part of the exposition consists of WHO documents – reports on the state of health in the world and in Europe, resolutions and decisions of the WHO Executive Committee, monitoring of the world population on health issues, basic WHO documents, etc. A separate section contains documents revealing the problems of health protection in the Republic of Belarus.

Among the documents presented at the exhibition are materials of international scientific and practical conferences, collections of scientific articles, statistical collections, monographs, textbooks, etc.

The exposition includes the following thematic sections:

  • Problems and achievements of healthcare in the world. WHO's activities
  • Public health and healthcare
  • Environment and health
  • Mother and child health
  • Fight against infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS
  • A healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle are the basis of human longevity
  • The right to health
  • High-quality healthcare and public health protection in the Republic of Belarus

The exhibition will be useful for healthcare professionals, medical professionals, researchers, teachers, students of higher educational institutions, as well as anyone interested in health problems and healthy lifestyle issues.

The main goal of the healthcare system of the Republic of Belarus has been and remains the formation of a healthy nation, the preservation of public health. Over the past 10 years, the main principles of the Belarusian healthcare system have been the priority of preventive measures based on the formation of a healthy lifestyle; the quality and accessibility of medical care, including drug provision; sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population and its future generations.
