From January, 15th, to February, 10th, an exhibition “The generosity of a musical palette” timed to the 75th anniversary of Valery Karetnikov runs in the Musical and audiovisual documents reading room (auditorium 305).
Belarusian composer and pedagogue Valery Karetnikov is a successor of the best traditions of the Belarusian composer school. His music is remarkable for a vivid expressiveness, a delicate psychological mood, an artistic depiction of images and a versatile world of human feelings and emotions. A harmonious artistry, compactness and laconism of the form are peculiar to it.
The composer explores various genres of academic music. He is the author of a cantata “The Memory” (1969), a vocal-instrumental poem “Flutist” (1996), a ballet “Dyuymovochka” (“Thumbelina”) (2009), symphonies (1970, 1992), concerts for the piano with the orchestra (1986, 1993), a suite “Seasons” «Времена года» (2002), pieces for the piano, sonatas, a poem for the viola and the piano, a scherzo for the violin and the piano, a quintet for the flute and the string quartet etc.
The exhibition presents musical editions and audio records of works by V. Karetnikov. Copies of hand-written plays for the piano “Delusion”, “A Night in the Wood” and “The Sunlight Spot”, and a reading-book Belarusian Music of the Second Half of the XX Century (2006) compiled and edited by V. Karetnikov are on display.
Considerable part of the exposition is reference editions and publications about the milestones of the composer’s life and creative activity.
