From October 15, 2008, to October 30, 2008, in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room is open an exhibition “Tragedy. Heroism. Memory.” timed to the 65th anniversary of the liquidation of the Minsk ghetto (1941 – 1943).




At the exhibition are displayed over 120 publications on the history of the Minsk ghetto where were imprisoned Jews from Belarus and other European countries. Materials displayed at the exhibition reveal an inhuman Nazi occupation regime which isolated, exploited, robbed, and liquidated Jews. But, in spite of terror and genocide, prisoners of the Minsk ghetto carried on a struggle against the enemy, from the foundation of the ghetto to its liquidation.Tragedy, heroism and courage interweaved in people’s destinies during the Great Patriotic War.

At the exhibition are displayed various materials: historical document, shorthand records, scientific works, memoirs of witnesses and prisoners of the Minsk ghetto, materials of conference, and bibliography. There are presented works by G. Smolyar, E. Ioffe, L. Smilovitsky, M. Botvinik, I. Gerasimova, Z. Shibeko, Y. Basin, G. Knatsko, A. Rubenchik, and others. The exhibition is illustrated with photographs.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.
