From 20 December to 13 January, an exhibition "Waiting for a miracle" runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).


New Year and Christmas holidays are a time for renovation, merry-making, hope and dreams. It is a time when we can forget about our routine life and plunge at half-forgotten childhood.

If you visit the exhibition, you will see a wonderful transformation of reality that gives us a magical world of art. Cheery snowmen and merry Father Christmas, winged fairies, beautiful Snow Maidens and other characters of New Year’s stories will create unforgettable atmosphere of waiting for a miracle on New Year's Eve.

The exhibition consists of pictures from the funds of the National Library of Belarus. Among the exhibits are rare foreign picture postcards of the beginning of the 20th century, posters of the 60s, the 70s and the 80s of the 20th century on New Year, as well as national postcards of the Soviet and modern periods.

The exhibition contains over 80 documents.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
