A subject book exhibition "We are thankful for the triumphant May!” timed to the Great Victory Day runs at the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, circular hall) from 3 May to 27 June.
Decades pass and generations change, but the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 remains forever in the heroic chronicles of Belarus as the symbol of national pride, military glory and valor. The Belarusian people were the first to face the treacherous attack of Nazi occupants on 22 June 1941.
Thousands of our compatriots fought in this war proving their courage, steadfastness and heroism in the cruel struggle and defending their Fatherland.
The Great Victory befell not only in large battles, but also in fights for each hill, each settlement, each city, each village. All citizens, both young and old, arrive at memorials, monuments and obelisks raised on the places of bloody fights in cities and settlements in order to pay respect to the immortal feat of their compatriots. The memory of heroes is immortalized in the names of streets, squares and parks. Our sacred duty is to keep this heroic heritage and the fighting traditions of the Belarusian people, and to transfer to next generations the most sacred feeling – the love of the Native Land, to the sovereign and independent Belarus.
The National Library of Belarus dedicates to the Great Victory a subject book exhibition “We are thankful for the triumphant May!”. The exposition includes more than 150 books published in last three years about heroism, courage and steadfastness of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. There are stories about unique human fates, unknown or little known military events, international feats of arms, and, first of all, the sacred memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the name of the Victory. The books on display reflect the major task of the exposition whose motto is “Nobody is forgotten. Nothing is forgotten”.
