The exhibition “Word Magician”, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian poet and translator Navum Kislik’s birth (1925–1998) will take place in the Belarusian literature reading room (205) from September 22 to October 31.

The world of poets of the Republic is manifold and diverse. There are those who write in Russian among them. They combine their work with translations of the colleagues’ poems from Belarusian. Such a good combination characterizes the creative work of Navum Kislik.

The writer’s literary heritage at the exhibition is represented by books of poems and translations “Selected” (1975) and “The stairs of ages” (1985), “Conversation with Friends” (1956), “Searching” (1959), “Call Letters of the Earth” (1961), “Story about the Pressed Powder” (1964), “Branches” (1969), “Holiday of the Snowfall” (1972), “Memory about Railway Stations” (1976), “September River” (1978), “First Snow” (1980), “Different Ages” (1984), “Winter World” (1985), where the main motives of his poems are a lyrical reflection of the destiny and a spiritual acquisition of the war time. The works of Kislik can be found in magazines and collections.

The book “To the Memory of the Gramophone” (1995) will be extremely interesting for visitors. The book contains poems of the last years and poems that were changed by the censorship. These poems are printed in the original way. The book also contains works that couldn’t have been printed earlier.

Navum Kislik is one of the promoters of the Belarusian literature in the Russian language. Works by J. Kupala, A.Kuliašoǔ, P. Pančanka, R. Baradulin, A. Vialiuhin, A. Rusiecki can be read in Russian thanks to him. Kislik translated novels of I. Melež “People on the Swamp” (1964), U. Karatkievič “Christ landed in Grodno” (1966), A. Karpiuk “Danuta” (1963). It’s possible to look at these translations and other that are in the collection “Ripe Pinewood” (1982).
