On February 23, 2024, the National Library of Belarus hosted a jubilee evening "A diligent sower in the field of philology", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Belarusian scientist, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Philology of the  Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after M. Tank Vasily Dzianisavich Starichonak.

Vasily Starichonak is the winner of the Francysk Skaryna medal, a knight of the Order of Francysk Skaryna, the author of more than 400 monographs, educational and methodical manuals, reference books and dictionaries, numerous scientific articles.

During the event, Dmitry Dyatko, Doctor of Philology, linguist, presented the bibliographic edition "Professor Vasily Dzianisavich Starichonak", and Vasily Starichonak told about his fate and scientific activities and handed over the reference book "Professor Vasily Dzianisavich Starichonak" to the library fund, wished everyone good health, success, fulfillment of the most cherished desires.


The creative evening was attended by Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus Lyudmila Vysotskaya, Vice-rector for Scientific Work of the  Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Felistovich, Dean of the Faculty of Philology of the Belarusian State University, Candidate of Philology Sergey Vazhnik, rector of the Parish of the Church of the Righteous Filaret the Merciful in Minsk Priest Makariy Kovalev, Head of the Russian Language Department of the Philological Faculty of the Belarusian State University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Ivan Rovdo, Director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Candidate of Philology Igor Kopylov, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Native Word" Natalia Shapran, head of the national student theatre "Living Word" of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank Alesya Sivokhina.

The National Library of Belarus presented an exhibition-viewing on a wide range of scientific interests of Vasily Starichonak. Among the documents are monographs, dictionaries, textbooks and articles on various branches of linguistics and literary studies – dialectology, lexicology, lexicography, polysemy, semantics, culture of speech, interlanguage contacts, entertaining philology.
