On December 8, the Director of the High Technologies Park Board, Valery Tsepkalo, donated 45 reference books to the National Library of Belarus.


In his speech, the Director of the library Raman Matulski noted that the fruitful cooperation of the National Library with the High Technology Park had taken place more than one year, and expressed hope for its long-term perspective.

Valery Tsepkalo expressed confidence that the donated books would contribute to the development of national science and culture, and highlighted the crucial role of the library in the innovative development of society.

The library has acquired encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference books, which present biographical information about scientists, politicians, workers of culture and art of different countries.

The reference books contain information about members of the reigning monarchs and the royal families of Europe, Asia, Africa; public and political figures of the USSR, 136 thousand Soviet citizens, and more than 5 thousand outstanding Soviet historical figures; senior politicians and rulers of the United States; the people who have made important contributions to the development of Finland as well as biographical information about other prominent figures from different countries.

The illustrated encyclopedia of art gathers data about famous artists, illustrators and sculptors of Eastern America.

Among the donated publications, there is The international who’s who, for 1979–1980 and 1991–1992. The reference book contains information about the outstanding figures of medicine, law, education, literature, art, cinema, music, sports and fashion; successful bankers and financiers; political and religious leaders and diplomats.

The series of biographic encyclopedias Who’s who in… will be of great interest to readers. Each issue introduces the basic biographical facts of the most prominent figures of different countries. The earliest issue dates from 1911.

The head of the Reference and Information Services Department of the National Library of Belarus Aliena Tulupava expressed confidence that the donated publications would cause great interest. The books will present a special value for professionals of all disciplines, especially librarians, and anyone who is interested in reliable information about lives of famous and influential people of the world.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
