On January 31, 2008 – February 1, 2008, in E.F. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library took place a seminar «Grodno regional libraries: current state and prospects”.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, National Library of Belarus, Grodno regional executive committee Administration of culture, and E.F. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library.
On January 31 participants of the seminar discussed the issues of government regulation of library activity in Belarus, and prospects of the further development of Grodno regional libraries. Participants paid a special attention to the reduction of public libraries network and safekeeping of libraries collections. Experts from National Library of Belarus acquainted participants with the NLB resources and prospects of corporate cooperation of libraries and other Belarusian establishments in the field of the development and use of information resources.
Participants signed the Treaty on the opening of National Library of Belarus virtual reading room in E.F. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library. According to the Treaty users of Grodno Regional Library have the access to the NLB information resources.

On February 1 participants of the seminar visited Lida Centralized Library System Mozheyky rural library; Ivyje Centralized Library System Ivyje Regional Central Library, Geranyony and Youratishky rural libraries; Oshmyany Centralized Library System Golshany rural library, and Oshmyany Regional Central Library. The visitors were acquainted with the libraries experience and consulted their colleagues on resources developing, user service, and the use of modern information technologies.
