On 15 December, the library will host the presentation of the multimedia resource Служить Родине: к 250-летию со дня рождения Михала Клеофаса Огинского (In the Service of the Homeland: to the 250th anniversary of Michal Cleophas Oginski) and the book by L.M. Niesciarčuk Міхал Клеафас Агінскі: Ліцвін, Патрыёт, Творца (Michal Cleophas Oginski: the Litvin, the Patriot, the Creator).

At the initiative of Belarus, Lithuania and Poland, the anniversary of the author of the world-known polonaise The Farewell to Homeland was included in the UNESCO calendar 2015. Throughout the year, only in Belarus more than a hundred commemorative events of different kinds have been held: concerts, exhibitions, open airs and scientific conferences.

Having created the electronic resource In the Service of the Homeland, the National Library of Belarus contributed to the celebration of Michal Cleophas Oginski’s anniversary and the promotion of his literary heritage.

The resource includes a large amount of bibliographic and factual information, recording of the composer’s works, digitized copies of his lifetime music publications, the Paris edition of Oginski’s memoirs written in French and translated into Polish from the stock of the National Library of Belarus, and also some archive documents provided by the State Museum of Theatre and Musical Culture of Belarus.

The popular science publication by L.M. Niesciarčuk Michal Cleophas Oginski: the Litvin, the Patriot, the Creator is devoted to the life and work of the famous composer, memoirist, diplomat, patriot and fighter for the Fatherland. The book describes the revival, return and promotion of his tangible and intangible heritage.

The electronic edition and the book will be interesting to teachers of history and architecture, music and art; university students and students of post-secondary education; art historians; experts on the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, local and foreign tourists and guests of Belarus.

The presentation starts at 4 p.m. in the gallery “Labyrinth” (3rd floor).
