On 15 December, the Library hosted the presentation of the multimedia resource Служить Родине: к 250-летию со дня рождения Михала Клеофаса Огинского (In the Service of the Homeland: to the 250th anniversary of Michal Cleophas Oginski) and the book by L.M. Niesciarčuk Міхал Клеафас Агінскі: Ліцвін, Патрыёт, Творца (Michal Cleophas Oginski: the Litvin, the Patriot, the Creator).


At the initiative of Belarus, Lithuania and Poland, the anniversary of the composer, diplomat, patron, politician, memoirist and author of the world-known polonaise The Farewell to Homeland was included in the UNESCO calendar 2015. Throughout the year, more than a hundred commemorative events of different kinds have been held only in Belarus: concerts, exhibitions, open airs and scientific conferences.

Having created the electronic resource In the Service of the Homeland, the National Library of Belarus contributed to the celebration of Michal Cleophas Oginski’s anniversary and the promotion of his literary heritage. The resource includes a large amount of bibliographic and factual information, records of the composer’s works, digitized copies of his lifetime music publications, the Paris edition of Oginski’s memoirs written in French and translated into Polish from the funds of the National Library of Belarus, and also some archive documents provided by the State Museum of Theatre and Musical Culture of Belarus.

The popular science publication by L.M. Niesciarčuk Michal Cleophas Oginski: the Litvin, the Patriot, the Creator is devoted to the life and work of the famous composer and fighter for the Fatherland, the revival, return and promotion of his tangible and intangible heritage. Fruitful political, cultural and philanthropic activities of Oginski in a 20-year period of his life in his estate in Zalesie, Smorgonski region, left a significant mark in the national history and culture, the creative heritage was shared by Belarus and the neighboring countries, and demonstrates the deep European roots of the Belarusian culture.

The Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus for information resources Tacciana Kuzminič, the head of the information and analytic activity department Lyudmila Gorbačeva, the candidate of history, Belarusian historian, author of the book Leanid Niesciarčuk, the doctor of philology, reviewer and author of the foreword to the book Adam Maldzis, the doctor of art sciences, professor, head of the Belarusian music department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music Volha Dadziomava took part in the event.

The electronic edition and the book open new opportunities of the promotion of historical and cultural heritage of Belarus for business, public and academic circles. They will be interesting to teachers of history and architecture, music and art, university students and students of secondary special educational institutions, art historians, experts on the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, local and foreign tourists and guests of Belarus.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
