Yanka Kupala’s state literary museum has launched the exhibition "The Harvest of Printed Words" on 22 February. This is a joint project of the museum and the National library of Belarus, dedicated to the International mother language day and the international poetry day.

Anna Galinskaia, head of the Yanka Kupala’s literary museum, Viktar Pshybytka, deputy director general of the National library of Belarus, Viktor Shnip, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Polymia", Galina Guzovskaia, chairman of the central district organization of Minsk "Belaia Rus", all greeted the attendees as the organizers of the event. The speakers emphasised the significance of cooperative initiatives between museum and library organisations that support the popularization of Belarusian history and culture and are crucial for the populace's patriotic education.

100 years ago, in the first issue of the magazine "Polymia", Yanka Kupala published an article "Publishing business in Belarus as of 1922". The year 1922 was referred to by the poet as "the most productive in the heyday of the Belarusian printed word". The exhibition introduces visitors to the publications that he wrote about, introduces us to the historical and cultural context of that time through the subject series, photo documents of writers, artistic portraits and sculptural compositions.

From the national library, publications from 1922 and later years were chosen for the display, including fiction, educational, scientific, and agricultural works. Analysis of the history and characteristics of the printing industry during the early years of the BSSR's development can be done using their output data, which includes location, publishing house, and circulation. Among the 28 publications presented at the exhibition are the works of the founders of modern Belarusian literature Frantishk Bogushevich, Yakub Kolas, Tishka Gartny, Mikhas Charot; well-known and «well-read» textbooks on arithmetic and algebra, "Belaruski Lemantar" and "Rodnae Slova", which were taught to many generations of Belarusian children. Illustrated agricultural publications are supplemented with diagrams and maps.

The peculiarity of these publications is that they carry a powerful source of the direction that the Belarusian printed book represents today.

You can view the exhibition at the Yanka Kupala Museum until April 1, 2023.
