The grand opening of the exhibition "Fantastic Journey" was held within the annual project "History and Modernity of Book Graphics".

The aim of the project is to popularize book art, draw public attention to the value of artistic design, features and history of the development of the illustration genre in Belarusian and foreign printed publications of various subjects from the collections of the National Library of Belarus.

The exhibition presents publications of authors of the 19th–20th centuries: starting with the inventors and creators of the genre of science fiction by Jules Verne and Herbert Wells to their followers – Yakov Perelman, Alexander Belyaev, Aleksey Tolstoy, Karel Срapek, Stanislaw Lem, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury and further to the authors of the first iconic works of modern fantasy. The exhibition provides an opportunity to compare figurative, stylistic and technical techniques of implementing the same plot with different book charts. From the covers and pages of the books look out to alien beings ("The War of the Worlds"), embodied by Enrique Correa or Valery Yurlov, beastmen from an island in the Pacific Ocean ("The Island of Dr. Moreau") or descendants of Atlases living on Mars ("Aelita"), as Slavuk Valery saw them.

The works of contemporary Belarusian painters, graphic artists, sculptors, and decorative artists complement the exhibition and make it more spectacular and attractive. The exhibition presents original illustrations to literary works that interpret famous fantastic subjects of world culture.

The exhibition allows visitors to travel from the stars of publications to the planets of works, from page to illustration, through centuries and continents, comprehending the adventures of inventors, captains, space travelers, unearthly creatures and expeditions of fantastic peoples and parallel universes.

We invite you to a pleasant and fantastic journey!
