An employee of the National Library of Belarus took part at a meeting of the Military Scientific Society which was held at the Central House of Officers of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus on April 24.
Andrei Baranovsky, Chief Bibliographer of the Bibliography Research Department of the National Library of Belarus, historian in the field of local lore, author of the book about Lepel Infantry School, told about the history of establishment and activities of this undeservedly forgotten military school from 1940 to 1957 on the eve of its 80th anniversary. He devoted his speech to the memory of cadets and officers of the school, who died in the battles for the homeland at the time of the Great Patriotic War.
Lepel Infantry School, formed before the war on the Belarusian land continued its work from 1941 in the city of Cherepovets, Vologda region. Andrei Baranovski suggested to install the memorial plaque on the former barracks of the schools in the village of Borovka, Lepel district, Vitebsk region. This event should be devoted to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the German fascist invaders.
The meeting was held under the guidance of the candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, retired colonel Leonid Tsygankov. The meeting was attended by the son of one of the cadets of the Lepel Infantry School of the pre-war period, Alexander Gerasimenko, as well as the publisher, military historian Dmitry Kienko and others.
Members of the military history section of the Military Scientific Society took an active part in the discussion.
