On November, 25th, at 4 p.m., the presentation of the research project “Karlag: the memory in the name of the future” will be held at the Library.

The project presentation is arranged by scientists of the Karaganda University “Bolashak” (Kazakhstan) within the bounds of the treaty to intend creative and scientific cooperation with the National Library of Belarus.

With the purpose of promoting a scientific comprehension of the history of Karlag, Karaganda scientists have analyzed sets of documents, studied a great volume of archival materials, and met with former political prisoners and prisoners of war. Documents connected with Karlag have lain for long years in archives stamped "top secret". Gradually, very selectively, archival funds have started to open, and witnesses of those terrible events have presented their memoirs to the wide public.

The memoirs of former prisoners of the largest concentration camp of the Soviet Union are of a great value for the study of history.
