On 6 June, a round table "Lobbying of libraries’ interests – from work in the field of politics to cooperation with funds that support cultural institutions" was held at the National Library of Belarus.
The round table was organized as part of the seminar "The Future of Libraries". The organizers of the event were the Minsk Goethe-Institut and the National Library of Belarus.
The round table was attended by over 70 delegates from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine – managers and specialists of public and special libraries. A speaker at the round table was Mr. Klaus-Peter Boettger, Director of the City Library of Essen (Germany) and President of the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations.
The first part of the round table related to lobbying of interests as an indispensable condition for modern libraries in the present and the future. Mr. Boettger by the example of his library showed how to build communication at the level of government and administration and what matters the library can solve in an effective lobbying of its interests.
The second part of the event included the presentation of the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA). Mr. Boettger introduced the participants of the round table with trends and results of the Bureau, stressed the importance of the organization’s advocacy work at the international level.
The speech by Mr. Böttger aroused great interest among the audience. At the event the participants have outlined the main issues of concern that will be discussed on the following events of the seminar "The Future of Libraries".
