The 5th Shchorsy Readings took place in the Navahrudak District Library on June 10–11. The National Library of Belarus took part in this prestigious scientific forum.

The conference was organized by the Department of Culture of the Hrodna Region Executive Committee, the Department of Culture of the Navahrudak Region Executive Committee, Ja. F. Karski Hrodna Regional Scientific Library.

The readings programme was rich and diverse. It included reports on the study of Belarusian book monuments, and also covered the state and prospects of public libraries in Hrodna region, current issues of library services.

Representatives of the National Library attended the Shchorsy Readings with the following scientific and methodological reports:

  • Mr Alies Susha, Deputy Director General – Director of Research and Publishing Activities:
    "Shchorsy Library of Khraptoviches: the Paths of Return";
  • Ms Tatsiana Karnilava, Head of the Organization and Scientific Processing of Collections Section of the Bibliology Research Department:
    “State Register of Book Monuments of the Republic of Belarus'”;
  • Ms Tatsiana Sapeha, Head of the Research and Project Work Section of the Bibliology Research Department:
    "Books, issued in Navahrudak in the First Half of the 20th Century".

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
