On July 11, the National Library of Belarus donated a set of publications to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the Republic of Belarus.
The event took place as part of an international campaign to restore the library collections in Iraq.
"As the terrorists destroyed the libraries and burned a huge number of books, we are forced to restore not only the buildings, but also the funds. The largest libraries around the world can help us a lot”, Hasan Al-Janabi, the representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the Republic of Belarus said.
The deputy director for information resources of the National Library of Belarus Tatyana Kuzminich expressed her support for the Iraqi side: "The library is a treasury of world knowledge, and barbaric actions that destroy its funds cannot be justified. If it so happens that libraries are ruined, our sacred duty is to work together to restore their collections and to strengthen their positions in the cultural life of the country".
The gift set includes books on humanities, manuals, proceedings of conferences, collected scientific papers, reference books, industrial catalogs, scientific periodicals, abstracts of dissertations etc. Many books are published in Belarus and represent our country, its culture, economy and ecology, politics and cooperation with other States. An important criterion in the selection of publications was the availability of annotations in English, or English-language fragments.
At the end of the meeting, the Iraqi side expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided, wishing Belarus peace and harmony.
