On November 23, the National Library hosted the grand opening of the IX Belarusian Christmas Educational Readings. This year's theme is "Orthodoxy and Russian Culture: losses and gains of the past, the image of the future."

Metropolitan Veniamin Minsky and Zaslavsky, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus; His Eminence Guriy, Archbishop of Novogrudok and Slonim; Vadzim Hihin, Director General of the National Library of Belarus; Mikhail Borozna, Rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts; Archpriest Fyodor Povny, Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Belarusian Orthodox Church for cooperation with secular educational institutions; addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

At the plenary session, the speakers touched upon the issues of the state and the Church in the Belarusian political tradition, the role of culture and education in the scenario of the future of Belarus, human life in the modern world, the role of spiritual and moral values, the continuous continuity of spiritual traditions in preserving the national identity of the Belarusian people.

The winners of the republican contests "The Book to me is the Book in me", "The Library is the center of spiritual enlightenment and education" and "The Light of Mercy" were awarded in a solemn atmosphere.

The presentation of the 12-volume book collection "Russian Classical Writers and Orthodoxy" published by the International Foundation for the Spiritual Unity of Peoples took place within the framework of the forum. At the end of the presentation, the publications from the book collection were donated to the National Library of Belarus.

Also, the participants of the event got acquainted with the exhibitions of books by the publishing houses "Education and Upbringing"(«Адукацыя і выхаванне»), the Belarusian Exarchate, the exhibition "Social and educational activities of the Center for Family, Motherhood and Childhood Support "Pokrova" and the Charitable Foundation for Family, Motherhood and Childhood Support "Pokrov".

Within the framework of the IX Belarusian Christmas Educational Readings, a round table meeting "Spiritual enlightenment through the activities of libraries" was held. The forum was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Information, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus.
