 On April 17, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening ceremony of the exhibition project of the leading artists of Belarus and Russia "Union State – Unity through Culture".

The exhibition project is held as part of the celebration of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia was implemented by the Standing Committee of the Union State together with the Russian Academy of Arts, the Belarusian Union of Artists, the Ministries of Culture of Belarus and Russia.

The aim of the project is to highlight the unifying power of art in the modern world. At the same time, it is a unique initiative in the field of developing intercultural dialogue, strengthening union building, and demonstrating deep ties between the cultures of our countries.

The title of the exhibition is based on the thesis of the importance of building a single integration space, which is gaining a new meaning today – it is about the need for real rapprochement in all spheres of interaction, the creation of a single cultural space.


The presented exhibition project started on March 26 in Moscow in the Yabloko Hall of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The exhibition in Minsk presents works by artists of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, recognized masters of contemporary art of the two countries.

Their work represents different genres, but the exposition is perceived as a single whole, a symbol of a common cultural space.


The opening of the exhibition was attended by Vadzim Hihin, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Marianna Shchetkina, head of the representative Office of the Standing Committee of the Union State in Minsk, Tatyana Kochemasova, Vice President, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, Gleb Otchik, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Andrei Kovalchuk, Chairman of the Russian Union of Artists, representatives of ministries, departments, public associations of the Republic of Belarus.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
