The National library of Belarus hosted a practical seminar "Electronic Medical Library of the Republican Scientific Medical Library for Education, Science, and practice" from 28 February to 1 March.
The Electronic medical library is a database on medicine, healthcare, and related fields of knowledge. The electronic catalog contains more than 950,000 scientific publications, namely: books, dissertation abstracts, dissertations, periodicals, articles from journals and collections from the stocks of the Republican scientific medical library.
Marina Pshybytka, deputy director for Scientific and methodological activity of the RNMB, greeted the attendees and guests with a welcome speech at the seminar’s launch on 28 February at the National library of Belarus.
Dmitry Sivurov, head of the Library and information technologies department of RNMB, made a report on "Electronic information resources of the Republican scientific medical library". In his speech, he introduced the participants to the resource, told about its features and significance in the field of education and science. Svetlana Fedchik, head of the RNMB Library services department, in her report "Electronic Medical Library of the RNMB: Features of Use" discussed the background, specifications, and potential for using the library.
Following the theoretical portion of the programme, we continued to practise getting to know the resource. Olga Alinovskaia, head of the Information and analytical department at RNMB, and Svetlana Fedchik conducted a training session on working with the Electronic medical library for employees of the National library. Each of the participants of the seminar had the opportunity to get acquainted with the resource in practice and ask questions to the speakers.
Following the seminar, the staff of the National library organized an excursion to the RNMB on 1 March, during which they got acquainted with the main areas of its activities. The library’s staff visited the Resource generation department, the Information and analytical department, the Information and library services department, and the Collections safekeeping department.
A special impression was made by visiting the Museum of the history of medicine of Belarus. The exhibits presented in the museum give a complete picture of the main stages of the formation and development of medicine in our country.
Veronika Shutova, RNMB’s head, presented each attendee with a certificate of completion of training in using the RNMB Electronic Medical Library at the conclusion of the meeting.
