On 30 December 2011, the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko signs Decree № 618 “On proclamation of 2012 as the Year of Book”.
By Decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus № 91, 27 January, 2012, the Republican Agenda on the Year of Book was adopted.
Within the framework of the Year of Book, the National Library prepared two multimedia projects.
The virtual project The year 1812 in the history of Belarus provides remote access to the digital copies of books, monographs, scientific collections and articles, including I. Kolodeev’s collection and the virtual art gallery. Also, on the occasion of this significant historical event the Library prepared the literary and educational project 1812. Known and unknown, the book exhibitions The war of 1812 in book monuments and In the fire of 1812. The events of the war on the territory of Belarus.
The multimedia resource Classics of world literature Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas, timed to the 130th anniversaries of the Belarusian bards, provides free access to the writers’ books, the records of their voices, the songs based on their poetry, and the virtual gallery of illustrations to their books. The chronicle of lives of Kupala and Kolas is represented as a summary table that allows comparing the crucial moments of their creative biographies.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Yakub Kolas the Library prepared the literary and educational project The people’s teacher, and also the book exhibitions The people’s teacher and The manuscripts and rare editions of Yakub Kolas in the Book Museum. Within the framework of the celebrations of the anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala, the Library prepared the literary and educational project The lantern of Belarusian poetry with the presentation of the facsimile edition of the poetry collection Šliacham žyccia, and also the book illustrated exhibition The bard of the Belarusian soul.
