2014 – The Year of Hospitality

On 27 December 2013, the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko signs Decree № 573 ”On proclamation of 2014 as the Year of Hospitality”.

By decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus № 62 of 24 January 2014, the Republican Agenda on the Year of Hospitality was adopted

The National Library of Belarus presents to your attention a thematic reading list “Welcome to Belarus!” and related Internet resources.

In the Year of Hospitality, from May 9th to May 25th, Belarus hosted the 78th World Ice Hockey Championship. The National Library prepared the slideshow dedicated to this kind of sports based on materials from the Library’s collections and open Internet resources.

In 2014, we commemorated 100 years from the beginning of the First World War which scales and consequences had no equal in the whole history of mankind. On this occasion the Library developed the virtual project Belarus in the First World War, and prepared the cultural and educational projects Drama of the First World War and The bell of centuries; the thematic book exhibition and the presentation of the book by Vyacheslav Bondarenko The First World War Commanders and Military Leaders Born in Belarus.
