An art exhibition by Uladzimir Sharkou “Sights of Belarus”, timed to coincide with the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus opens in the Atrium Gallery (3rd floor) on July 1.

Artist, painter, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists Uladzimir Sharkou is well known to Belarusians and people abroad for the watercolour images of Belarusian cities and landmarks. Executed in a distinctive manner, his works serve as a kind of visiting card of Belarus.

The artist's palette is made up of exquisite lines, soft colours. Uladzimir Sharkou draws cities as he saw them for the first time in real life or in archival sources. He polishes his artworks, adds details, but tries to preserve the images as if they were clean from the influences of a hasty time.

The exhibition "Sights of Belarus" includes the Lida Castle of Prince Gediminas, Halshany Castle, the ruins of Navahrudak and Kreva castles, the church in Zaslaul, Cathedral of the Holy Name of Mary and the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk, the city halls of Minsk and Niasvizh, other beautiful Belarusian places... Some of the works look like old photographs, and some feel alive and real.

The exhibition opens on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. July 3 is the day when it is worth remembering the cultural wealth of the country, the unique national features of Belarusian architecture, a number of historical events behind each monument and castle, tower, church. Romantic, sincere, well-known images and landscapes provide a unique opportunity to visit many beautiful Belarusian cities during one tour of the gallery, pay tribute to the historical and cultural heritage, comprehend its eternal value, think and answer the question of what we will leave to descendants.

The exhibition will be on show until September 16, 2021.
The end date of the exhibition may be changed.

Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.
