From December 17, 2007 to December 31, 2007 in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is open an exhibition “A Generous Talent” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Vladimir Gnilomyodov.


Vladimir Gnilomyodov is an eminent Belarusian literary critic, laureate of V. Kolesnik Literary Prize (1984), and National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Prize (2006),Doctor of philology, and academician. He is the author of critical essays and fiction.

Vladimir Gnilomyodov researches theory and history of Belarusian literature, peculiarities of modern Belarusian literature, classical traditions in Belarusian literature, role of an artist in the history and literature, and innovations in modern genre and stylistic forms.

The exhibition presents publications by Vladimir Gnilomyodov: fiction, scientific works, monographs, and collected critical essays.

Vladimir Gnilomyodov is the co-author and co-editor of a fundamental work “History of Belarusian Literature of the 20th Century” in 4 volumes.

In a particular section of the exhibition are displayed works by Vladimir Gnilomyodov dedicated to the eminent Belarusian writers (Yanka Kupala, Ivan Melezh, Basil Zuyonok, and others).

At the exhibition are displayed as well works by Vladimir Gnilomyodov translated into Russian, Ukrainian, French, Georgian, Moldavian, and other languages.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
