From 2 July to 31 August, an exhibition "Be prosperous, Belarus!", timed to the Independence Day of Belarus, runs in the Periodicals Reading Room (room 106).
Independence Day is the most important holiday of the Belarusian state system. It was established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus № 1 "On the establishment of the national holiday – the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus" on 11 December, 1996 and it became a symbol of the national revival of the state. The holiday is celebrated on 3 July, the date when Minsk became free from Nazi invaders in 1944.
Materials of the first section of the exhibition, devoted to the unprecedented feat of Soviet soldiers during World War II, presents periodicals: newspapers Respublika (Republic), Sovetskaya Belarus (Soviet Belarus), Belaruskaya voennaya gazeta (Belarusian military newspaper), magazine Armiya (Army), Belaruskaya Dumka (Belarusian thought), Ideologicheskie aspekty voennoy bezopasnosti (Ideological aspects of military security), etc.
The documents, continuing the exposition, tell us that over the past decade revived by the people’s hard work independent Belarus took its rightful place in the world community. An intensive economic dialogue is continueing, the civil and diplomatic relations are expanding, and cultural exchange between countries is increasing. The heirs of the winners continue the tradition of older generations to maintain and increase of their conquests, peace and security, strengthening the sovereignty of Belarus.
