From December 8, 2007 to December 31, 2007, in the Official Documents Department is open a book exhibition “Human Rights: the Present and the Prospects” dedicated to the International Human Rights Day.

This Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution (resolution423 (V)) in 1950 and it has being celebrated annually on December 10. On December 10, 1948 the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (resolution 217 А (III)) proclaiming rights of the person, civic and political freedom (equal protection of the law, right to the freedom and inviolability, and liberty of conscience).

Every year the International Human Rights Day reminds the world community of the issues of human rights.

The exhibition totals over 130 materials which reveal the activities of the UN in the field of human rights protection, fight against human rights violation, development of international agreements, and other documents. A particular attention is paid to the education and cultivation of human rights culture of next generations.

The exposition includes the following sections:

  • Human rights: history, theory, and the present
  • Protection of civic, political, social, economic, and cultural human rights
  • Women’s rights
  • Children’s rights
  • Refugees and migrants rights
  • National minorities and indigenous rights
  • Fight against racism and apartheid
  • Human rights information and education

At the exhibition are displayed documents of international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, Council of Europe and others) in Russian and English languages: books, periodicals, mimeographed materials of the UN, brochures, and booklets.

We invite to the exhibition experts of international right, world policy, international relationships and human rights, as well as students, undergraduates, professors, political and public figures, and everyone who is interested in the urgent issues of human rights.

In documents of international organizations reading room visitors can take free publications by the United Nations Office in Belarus, National Commission of Belarus for UNESCO, OSCE Bureau for democratic institutes and human rights.
