“The Ark of Chingiz Aitmatov”, a book and illustrative exhibition, runs in the circular corridor, 3rd floor, from December 12 to January 10.

December 12 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of the famous and respected throughout the world writer, Chingiz Aitmatov.

His writing, imbued with national myths and legends, is still of great interest to many readers. Preserving the national flavor, the writer speaks about universal values.

The National Library of Belarus offers a book and illustrative exhibition “The Ark of Chingiz Aitmatov” timed to the word-painter’s anniversary.

The exhibition presents the works of Chingiz Aitmatov and publications about his life and career from the collections of the National Library. Translations into the Belarusian language deserve special attention: stories Jamila (1962), Farewell, Gulsary! (1971), The First Teacher ( (1974), novel The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years (translator Mikhas Streltsov; illustrator Arlen Kashkurevich, the known Belarusian graphic artist 1987, 2018), and also novel When The Mountains Fall, serialized in the magazine Maladost (2018).

The exposition centerpiece is the writer's works published in books: White Rain (1955), Face to Face (1957), Jamila (1958), The Camel’s Eye (1960), Red Scarf (1961), The First Teacher (1962), Mother’s Field (1963), Red Apple (1964), Farewell, Gulsary! (1966), The White Steamboat (1970), Cranes Fly Early (1975), Spotted Dog Running On Seashore (1977), The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years, Scaffold (1986), Ode to the Grand Spirit: A Dialogue with Daisaku Ikeda (1990), Cassandra's Brand (1996), When The Mountains Fall (2006), The White Cloud of Genghis Khan (1991). Each book has a brief annotation.

Publications on the life and work of the classic of the twentieth century are also on display. The book exhibition includes a variety of illustrative material.


The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by library card or by ticket of the library's social and cultural center. Information and tickets may be obtained at the registration desk.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
