From 11 November to 20 December in the Belarusian literature reading room (room 205) runs a book exhibition "The consonance of thought and feeling” dedicated to the 80th birthday of Belarusian poet, dramatist, publicist, critic and translator Anatoly Vertinsky.


Anatoly Vertinsky is the honored art worker of Belarus, winner of the State Prize of Belarus named after P. Lepeshinsky (1988) for the book “The new York Siren”. Lyricism and public spirit, spirituality and humanity, aspiration for comprehension of the high ideal are peculiar to his works. The author’s ideas and feelings are reflected in his poetry and prose.

A. Vertinsky’s poetic creativity is presented in the exhibition section “A confidential and sincere confession”. Visitors can get acquainted with his verses and poems included in the books of collected poems “The Song of Bread” (1962), “Three Silences”(1966), “Human Sign” (1968), “Selected Works” (1973), “Emergence” (1975), “The First Stars Hour” (1976), “Vetrana” (1979), “The Earthly Light” (1981), “The Little Boy is Watching” (1992), “Woman. Man. Love... “ (2003), “Selected Works”(2009). Numerous poetic works by the artist of a word published in magazines and collective collections add to the exposition.

Prosaic works of the writer are displayed in the section “This is light, brave and powerful”. Along with the separately published collections of prose “The High Sky of an Ideal” (1980), “Thank You, Thank You Very Much” (1983), “The new York Siren” (1987), “The Troubled Dawn” (1994), there are plays, publicism, literary criticism, articles, statements and interview.

A. Vertinsky is well-known in the world owing to translations of his works into different languages: Russian, Ukrainian, English, Polish, Bulgarian, etc. The exhibition section “The poet’s earthly light” acquaints with numerous publications of translations.

A. Vertinsky is the recognized master of literary translation. The section “The many-sided talent” presents him as a translator, compiler and editor.

The last part of the exposition “The high sky of his ideal” sums up the data on A. Vertinsky as an unusual, interesting person, the well-known poet and prose writer, and the state and public figure. Books by I. Govzich, O. Rusilko, D. Bugaeva, B. Bechik, A. Gorditsky and other fundamental researches of his creativity are on display.

The exhibition is illustrated with the portraits of Anatoly Vertinsky.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
