The information and documentary exhibition "The Locals" dedicated to the Year of the Native Land is held from May 15 at the exhibition area of the 3rd floor.

On February 9, 2018 the President of the Republic of Belarus A. Lukashenko announced the year of 2018 as the Year of the Native Land.

Recently, the interest in local history information, areas study in their historical, socio-economic and cultural development has increased significantly. Due to the local history, we find the opportunity to express their love to the only place on Earth that is considered native, regardless of whether it is a large metropolis or a small village.

Belarus gave the world hundreds of prominent figures in science, literature, culture and public administration. Their fates are different: some of them devoted the life to their homeland, the others belonged to several countries. However, they were born here, went out of our land, which had different names in the thousand-year history.

The exhibition presents more than 300 thematic exhibits, including encyclopedias, reference, science, non-fiction, literary and periodicals on various places and famous people of Belarus.

The exposition is divided into six sections devoted to regional towns and their surroundings: Minsk and Minsk region, Brest and Brest region, Vitebsk and Vitebsk region, Gomel and Gomel region, Grodno and Grodno region, Mogilev and Mogilev region.

As part of the exposition an illustrative and text information about the outstanding educators, diplomats, generals, astronauts, inventors, artists and the arts, athletes who were born and lived in the present borders of Belarus, as well as those who showed their talents and abilities in other countries.

It should be noted that the persons for exposure are chosen in such a manner that no one town is mentioned twice, so that allowed to talk about more parts of Belarus. There are 73 important figures from different times, whose lives are an example of high service to the Motherland and its people. All they are honorable for our common cozy home and of whom we have to be proud.

The exhibition will be interesting for a wide range of visitors and will last till January 31, 2019.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to July 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
