On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sciapan Alieksandrovich, an exhibition “The Word is Wealth” is on show held in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) from November 24 to January 2.
Prominent Belarusian literary critic, writer, and erudite and thoughtful teacher Sciapan Alieksandrovich (1921–1986) takes a special place in the history of Belarusian culture and literature. He showed vivid examples of the difficult fate of the national heritage and the printed word. He discovered little-known names in Belarusian literature, researched completely forgotten facts and pages of its history. He developed the genres of writer biography, local history and biographical essay. He created literary portraits of Belarusian writers P. Bahrym, F. Savich, F. Bahushevich, K. Kahaniec, Ja. Kupala, Ciotka, Z. Biadulia, K. Chorny, C. Hartny, A. Hurlo, etc. He studied the life and work of F. Skaryna and the relation to Belarus and Belarusian culture of A. Mickievich, T. Shevchenko and J. Rainis.
"The Bright Images Names" section includes the books "Along Unforgettable Roads", "In the footsteps of a Poetic Legend", "This is the land here", a collection of literary and critical articles "History and Modernity", works of fiction and documentaries about Ja. Kolas, "From the dear land...", "To the wide-open spaces", "The Way of the Cross", monograph "The Paths of the Native Word: Problems of Development of Belarusian Literature and Printing in the Second Half of the 19th – the Beginning of the 20th Centuries), the story "Distant flashes of Lightning" about the heroism of people during the Great Patriotic War.
Books in which S. Alieksandrovich serves as compiler, editor-in-chief or member of the editorial board are posted in the "Treasure Gatherer" section.
Sciapan Alieksandrovich worked tirelessly for the enrichment of Belarusian culture. The " Multifaceted Talent" section looks at the life and work of the literary scholar.
The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.
