From December 11th, 2009, to January 31st, 2009, in National Library of Belarus (the second floor, circular passage) is open a book exhibition "Time in the mirror of silver screen" timed to the 85th anniversary of the Belarusian national cinema.

During the 85-year period of existence of the Belarusian cinema, significant masterpieces in the field of fiction film (screen versions of the Belarusian and world classics, heroic and patriotic films about the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), children's films), documentary film (films about historical events, outstanding historical figures, educators, film-portraits of famous masters of all kinds of art), and also animation (both children’s cartoons and highly artistic author's films) has been created.

Before the anniversary, National Library of Belarus invites amateurs and professionals in cinema art to visit a subject exhibition. History, traditions and modern trends of the Belarusian cinema art, role of the State in organization, regulation and support of cinema, people, whose creative biographies have significantly defined the image of the Belarusian cinema art - all this is revealed at the offered exposition. About 200 editions published in different years are displayed.

The composite exhibition includes several sections. The first one – “Cinema – the State’s business” – includes legal documents, annual reports of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, subject catalogues, materials of cinema forums, and also encyclopedias, reference books, and publications by critics.

The section “Through the prism of the decade” represents editions from the beginning of the XX century up to now on the history and the modern state of the national cinema. The section “On screen and off screen” is dedicated to actors, directors, operators and other participants of the film-making process. The next section of the exhibition “Alliance of words and the screen”, which includes a number of director’s scripts, tells about connections between the national cinema and the Belarusian literature.

The exposition contains the thorough information on the role of the national cinema in spiritual life of people, and also its connections with screen culture of other countries. Visitors of the exhibition will find materials about the main Belarusian film festival of the last years - "Listapad", and other Belarusian film festivals.

The exhibition is located on the second floor in the circular passage and is open from December 11th, 2009, to January 31st, 2009.
