From May 15th to June 21st, in a hall of the Belarus literature there passes{there takes place} a book exhibition “Treasures of the heart” timed to the 75th anniversary of poet, translator, literary critic and researcher of Belarusian and Russian literature Yan Chikvin runs in Belarusian literature reading room.


Known poet from Bialystok, citizen of Poland of Belarusian origin Yan Chikvin is a man of versatile talents. He is a literary critic, researcher and public figure; in 1989 he became chairman of the Belarusian Literary Association “Belovezha”, in 1990 – editor of the series The Library of the Belarusian Literary Association “Belovezha”, in 1998 – editor of the Belarusian literary magazine &Termapily. Also he is a member of the International Association of specialists in Belarusian philology and the International PEN Club of the Belarusian PEN Center and member of the Union of Polish Writers (1990).

Yan Chikvin’s creativity is characterized by a combination of many searching trends of modern poetry with the support of classical traditions of world literature and a profound knowledge of folklore. His works are notable for a peculiar organic intellectuality that is shown in a profound knowledge of both national and world philosophy, culture and literature. The poet’s verses are formed on the crossroads of three Slavic cultures: Belarusian, Polish and Russian representing an original poetry, Belarusian in the core, which is at the same time a part of all-European cultural context.

The offered exhibition presents books of Yan Chikvin’s verses, his works on literary criticism and translations, and also editions about his life and creative career.

The exhibition is richly illustrated with the poet’s photos.

After reading the quote, I involuntarily recall the sunlight-filled art of French Impressionist artists with their positive attitude and amazing freshness of perception. When looking at their paintings, one feels a rainbow-colored, slightly blurred atmosphere, as if woven from a soft cloud through which pearly light pours.
