An illustrative book exhibition, timed to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Belarusian architect Vyacheslav Chernatov (1939–2016), runs in the fine arts reading room (306), from 2 to 31 August.

Vyacheslav Chernatov is remembered as a tireless researcher, authoritative scientist, talented architect and wise teacher; a true enthusiast of his work; a man of high culture and erudition, kind and sympathetic, keen to share his knowledge and discoveries.

Wishing to preserve the national architectural heritage, he contributed to the restoration of historical buildings, led restoration work and collaborated with the Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments. The architect designed a restaurant in Borisov, a shopping mall in Dzerzhinsk, an educational building of the Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship in Minsk and other public buildings.

Vyacheslav Chernatov is also known as a scientist. He studied the manifestation of national identity in the architecture of Belarusian cities of the second half of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries. He first revealed the concept of “master of architecture” and wrote a series of monographs dedicated to the Belarusian architects, Georgy Zaborsky, Abram Dukhan, Vladimir Korol, Stanislav Shabunevsky. Vyacheslav Chernatov is the author of books about memorial buildings in Belarus. All these publications are presented at the exhibition.

Numerous articles by Vyacheslav Chernatov, published in specialized journals, scientific collections, reference books and encyclopedias, will also be of interest.

For many years, Vyacheslav Chernatov was a devoted reader of the National Library and often worked in the fine arts reading room. We remember this talented person warmly and with much respect.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
