On 30 October, the V.I. Lenin Regional Universal Library in Gomel hosted a presentation and ceremonial donation to public libraries of Gomel Region of the facsimile The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna.


The event gathered the representatives of cultural, scientific and educational institution of Gomel Region, and also heads and leading specialists of libraries of the Russian Federation.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky acquainted the attendees with the project, emphasizing that the facsimile reconstruction of all books printed by Skaryna in Prague and Vilna was timed to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing. The project has been implemented in cooperation with the BelVEB Banc.

Mr. Motulsky also noted that the complete translations of Skaryna’s original texts had been performed for the first time as part of the project. For a better understanding of the content and significance, each edition includes scientific comments and explanations. To implement these tasks, a professional scientific team was created, which included well-known book experts, historians, linguists, literary critics, and cultural historians. Such an integrated approach makes possible the most complete demonstration of the wealth of the Belarusian printer’s book heritage, showing the wide audience all the diversity of his creative activity.
