On January 25 at 5 p.m. at the art gallery Labyrinth take place the presentation of the book “Ivan Shamyakin. The Chronicler of the Epoch: Memoirs, Interviews, Essays” and the opening of a book exhibition timed to the writer’s 90th birthday.


On the eve of the 90th birthday of people’s writer of Belarus, Hero of Socialist Labour and laureate of numerous state prizes and awards Ivan Shamyakin, the National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the publishing house “Mastatskaya Litaratura” presents an anniversary book exhibition dedicated to the writer’s life and literary heritage, and also the biographical book “Ivan Shamyakin. The Chronicler of the Epoch: Memoirs, Interviews, Essays”.

The book exhibition presents around 200 editions: collections of Ivan Shamyakin’s works published by the Union of Writers of Belarus and the publishing house “Mastatskaya Litaratura”; separate books for which the author received awards; biographical and critical works by Belarusian researchers.

The book “Ivan Shamyakin. The Chronicler of the Epoch: Memoirs, Interviews, Essays” is part of the popular and prestigious series “Life of Famous Peole of Belarus”. This book, redacted by the writer’s daughter, PhD Alesya Shamyakina, portrays the image of the Artist and the Human through the prism of memoirs of his relatives and friends, literati and architects.

Representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus, the publishing house “Mastatskaya Litaratura”, the writer’s daughters Alesya Shamyakina and Tatiana Shamyakina, and also representatives of creative community take part in the event.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
