The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2011 the International Year of Forests. A number of events timed to this date are to be held the world over. Belarus joins the celebrations as well, for the forest covering almost a half of our country is one of our major natural treasures.

The National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the International Guild of Painters presents its own cultural project timed to the celebrations of the International Year of Forests 2011– the Landscape Festival whose major aim is to attract the public attention to preservation and protection of the natural treasure of Belarus.

Well-known Belarusian artists Aleksandr Grishkevich, Egor Batalyonok, Georgi Poplavsky, Valery Vedrenko, and others express their attitude towards the forest and the living nature through their paintings, works of graphic and photography.

The project curator and chairman of the International Guild of Painters Fyodor Yastreb opened the Festival. At the event artist Dmitri Suprinovich, painter Anatoli Belyavsky and councilor of the civil society organization “Fotoiskusstvo” Ivan Petrovich delivered their speeches.

Olga Kirlik, the student of the faculty of philology of Belarusian State University, performed musical compositions.
