On December 21st, 2009, the delegation from St.-Petersburg headed by Governor V.I. Matvienko made an official visit to National Library of Belarus.


The delegation included heads of committees, industries and organizations of St.-Petersburg.

Within the framework of the visit in National Library of Belarus took place a closed meeting of Prime-Minister of the Republic of Belarus S.S. Sidorsky and Governor of St.-Petersburg V.I. Matvienko and also a sitting of the Council for business cooperation of Belarus and St.-Petersburg.

During the sitting participants considered the results of trade and economic cooperation and fulfillment of arrangements between the government of Belarus and the government of St.-Petersburg in 2009. The parties examined the prospects of cooperation in the field of cooperation relations development, creation of joint assembly manufactures, supply of transport, municipal and road-building technical equipment, agroindustrial products, food and consumer goods, as well as the questions of development of commodity distribution network of Belarusian enterprises in St.-Petersburg.

V.I. Matvienko and S.S. Sidorsky met representatives of mass-media at the press-conference which was held after the sitting.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
