The first capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania celebrated its 970th anniversary.
On 3 October, 2014, during festivities held in Novogrudok facsimile editions of the book heritage of Francysk Skaryna were donated to the funds of the Novogrudok centralized library system and the Novogrudok Museum of History and Regional Studies. At the ceremony of the donation of books Deputy Director of the National Lirary of Belarus for Research and Publishing Activities Alexander Susha said the rich cultural traditions of our land should be the basis for the further successful development of Belarus.
In 2014, the National Library of Belarus jointly with the bank BelVEB has implemented the first part of a nationwide project to produce a facsimile edition of the complete collection of Francysk Skaryna’s books: the first five volumes have been published. The publishing project covers is planned to be implemented in 2013–2017. This initiative is timed to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing.
