On January 22, schoolchildren of the 4th grade of the Stembridge Secondary School did not take a lesson in the classroom, but in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.
Children studied the life path and activities of the Belarusian first printer Francysk Skaryna.
In the museum, the schoolchildren obtained the unique possibility to see the books by Francysk Skaryna, published in Prague more than 500 years ago.
The classes were a fascinating story about the life and work of Francysk Skaryna with interactive elements and contributed to the awareness of the role of the Belarusian first printer in the development of national culture. The children conducted research by themselves that allowed them not only to believe in a scientific fact but to participate in a scientific discovery based on historical documents. They took maps and facsimile editions of Francysk Skaryna's books to discover historical events.
There were creative assignments at the lesson. Schoolchildren puzzled the portrait of Francysk Skaryna and the title page of his first book and then discussed the resulting images. At the end of the lesson, each participant printed a symbol of the first Belarusian printed book - the Sun and the Crescent.
We invite schoolchildren to museum classes as part of the On a Visit to Books project.
