In December, participants of the Book Professors Club of the National Library of Belarus were engaged in the creation of a so-called pothi book.
In ancient India one of the most common materials for writing were palm leaves. They were treated and polished specially for this purpose. The written leaves were connected through holes punched along the edges. For better safety, the wooden plates were attached at top and bottom. The palm leaves were writable on one or both sides.
The little participants saw the original pothi book from the Library’s manuscripts collection, and then they tried to create such a book according to ancient Indian traditions.
