On 16 October, Roman Motulsky, the director of the National Library of Belarus, visited the National Library of France and the French National Assembly Library, to which he presented and donated the facsimile The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna
The international scientific and publishing project on the facsimile re-edition of Francysk Skaryna’s heritage was launched and implemented by the National Library of Belarus and the BelVEB Bank within five years (2013–2017). As a result, the world community received a precious 21-volume collection of facsimiles. Now this multivolume edition is kept in the biggest libraries and information centers all over the world, representing Belarus as a country with a unique culture and rich history.
During the visit Roman Motulsky met Sylviane Tarsot-Gillery, the director of the National Library of France, and Patrick Montambault, the director of the French National Assembly Library. At the meeting the parties considered the questions of cooperation to reveal both countries’ national documents in the stocks of the National Library of Belarus and the National Library of France, as well as the ways of development and consolidation of intercultural relations between the libraries.
Roman Motulsky carried on negotiations on preparing and holding a joint seminar for librarians at the National Library of Belarus. He also became acquainted with the experience of the National Library of France in the development of the Gallica digital library, the third version of which was launched in 2007.
