A festive ceremony of awarding of the winners at the contest of the works for the drama theatre “Francysk Skaryna and modernity” will take place on October 18 at 15.00 in the Anteroom on the 2nd floor.
The Republican theatre of Belarusian drama, the National Library of Belarus and Belarusbank are organizers of the contest. It’s dedicated to a significant event, which will be widely celebrated in 2017 – the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing.
The contest of the works for the drama theatre “Francysk Skaryna and modernity” was announced on May 1, 2016 in order to enrich repertories of country’s theatres with new drama works, which will reflect Skaryna’s spiritual achievement, present his in many aspects, as a thinker, scientist, humanist-enlightener, person. One of the main conditions of the contest was novelty of a work – it shouldn’t have official publications and performances in theatres. Authors-participants got an opportunity to work with all materials and works, dedicated to Francysk Skaryna and his heritage, which are in the fund of the National Library.
All works in order to evaluate them objectively were given to the jury, who were theatre, library representatives, theatre historians. The head of the commission was the art director of the RTBD, an honored artist of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Gartsuev.
The contest winners have been chosen in three categories: a historical play, a modern play and staging. These who win the main and two encouragement prizes in each nomination will be announced at the ceremony. All winners will receive money reward and diplomas. Besides, contest works will be published, and plays-winners are planned to be presented not only in Belarusian theatres, but in foreign cities where Skaryna lived and worked.
