The National Library of Belarus hosted a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation on November 26.

The Belarusian side was headed by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Markevich, the Russian delegation - by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova.

A sightseeing tour of the library building was held for the Russian delegation, during which the guests got acquainted with the architectural features and history of the book treasure, visited its most significant places and operating expositions, assessed the institution's potential as the largest information and socio-cultural centre of Belarus.

At the meeting, the main issues discussed were topical issues and trends in the development of library, museum, theatre, music, cinematography and other spheres of culture and art.

Director General of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky made a report on cooperation between the libraries of Belarus and Russia. He noted that the priority direction at the moment is joint work on the formation and use of electronic information resources. “Long-formed and well-established friendly and business relations are a reliable guarantor of our successful joint work in the future” stressed Roman Motulsk.

Director General of the Russian National Library Alexander Vershinin also spoke about the interaction of libraries in Russia and Belarus, noting that the library system developed in these countries contributes to an increase in the role of libraries in organizing intercultural cooperation. “Interaction is organized at all levels and involves different types of libraries. This creates conditions for the involvement in cultural contacts not only of the population of the capital's centres, but also of cities and rural settlements, both specialists - visitors to scientific libraries, and citizens of various regions of our countries” summed up Alexander Vershinin.

Discussion and exhibition event “To the 75th anniversary of the common Victory. The role of Russian and Belarusian culture in preserving historical memory and countering falsification of history” on November 27 in the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. It will take place as part of the visit of the Russian delegation to Minsk.
