A ceremonial donation of the facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the National Library of Mongolia took place in Ulan-Bator, on May 30.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Mongolia Stanislav Chepurny handed the multivolume facsimile to the Director of the National Library of Mongolia Bayarkhuugiin Ichinkhorloo. During his speech, the ambassador introduced the audience to the life and work of Francysk Skaryna and noted the first printer’s contribution to the formation of Belarusian and the development of East Slavic book-printing. The head of the Belarusian diplomatic representatives said he was certain that the event would initiate a fruitful cooperation between Belarus and Mongolia in the field of librarianship.
In her turn, Director Bayarkhuugiin Ichinkhorloo thanked the Belarusian party for the valuable gift emphasizing that the unique edition would help Mongolian scholars in studying the world and Slavic literature. She also expressed interest in further cooperation with the National Library of Belarus.
The publication of the 21-volume facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna is truly an outstanding event for not only Belarus but the whole world community. The international scientific and publishing project, released by the National Library of Belarus and the Bank BelVEB, had lasted five years and was successfully finished in the year of the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book-printing. Today, the multivolume edition is being donated to the biggest world’s libraries, introducing peoples in different countries to the history and unique culture of Belarus.
